His films include Paths of Glory 1957, Dr Strangelove 1964, 2001: A Space Odyssey 1968, A Clockwork Orange 1971, and The Shining 1979. More than any of his American contemporaries, Kubrick achieved complete artistic control over his films, which have been eclectic in subject matter and ambitious in both scale and technique. His other films include Lolita 1962 and Full Metal Jacket 1987.
